Motivating Your Sales Team in 2009
|
With 2009 just round the corner it’s a good time to reflect on your current business practice and how you motivate your sales team.
For many situations there is a thought provoking poem, part of The Elephant's Child by Rudyard Kipling, which gives us six questions we need to ask when presented with a given situation which then allows you to think it through. "I Keep Six Honest Serving Men ..." I keep six honest serving-men (They taught me all I knew); Their names are What and Why and When And How and Where and Who. I send them over land and sea, I send them east and west; But after they have worked for me, I give them all a rest. I let them rest from nine till five, For I am busy then, As well as breakfast, lunch, and tea, For they are hungry men. But different folk have different views; I know a person small- She keeps ten million serving-men, Who get no rest at all! She sends'em abroad on her own affairs, From the second she opens her eyes- One million Hows, two million Wheres, And seven million Whys! So ask yourself: • What is your mission? • Why are you doing it? • When do you need to see results? • How will you get there? • Where are you going? • Who with? If you can answer these questions you will then be able to refine your mission down to something that can be easily presented to others in the optimum time. Give it a try and find the solution to motivating your sales team for 2009. |
